SA 1034 SA 1024
For Fall/Winter 2014-2015, Safilo presents a new collection of optical frames that is an inspired blend of style and innovation, reinterpreted with a contemporary twist, for unparalleled technical performance.

All the new eyewear models feature the innovative Elasta 80 hinge, the evolution of the Elasta hinge, developed and constantly improved by Safilo to make it more effective: the temple closing mechanism has been further reduced so that it takes up less space, is ultra-lightweight and lasts longer. The crossbow mechanism, which is screwless thanks to skilful welding techniques, is inspired by the automotive world, combining a clean, essential aesthetic with functionality and showcasing pure, simple lines that recall industrial design.

But that’s not all: Safilo shakes up the world of eyewear with the XE 4066 polymer, a revolutionary ultra-lightweight, highly resistant plastic material with unique technical and stylistic features that has never been used in the eyewear industry so far. Compared to other materials having the same strength, this polymer allows for the creation of ultra-slim profiles and stunning matte/transparent colour combinations, for a strong visual impact.

Lastly, the new glasses offer superior wearability and are perfect for any face shape, thanks to a new assembly technique and to the adjustable metal nose pad arms, ensuring a snug, perfect fit.

Made in Italy - Men

SA 1023
A cutting-edge design: with their contemporary flair, linear profiles and geometric shape, these rectangular men’s glasses set new standards in style. A fine interplay of materials – metal and the XE 4066 polymer – gives life to an alluring set of shades: black, brown-mud, light blue and red.

SA 1024
With its rectangular silhouette and flat upper front profile, this men’s metal/XE 4066 polymer optical frame is the utmost expression of a modern design combined with maximum comfort. An essential, monochromatic colour palette in tones of black, brown-gold, blue and beige lends a timeless allure to the new model.

SA 1026
Minimalist elegance is the watchword for these glasses: the sheet steel frame features ultra-flat, ultra-slim profiles and clean-cut, squared lines. A minimalist array of nuances, ranging from blue to brown to ruthenium, as well as matte black.

Made in Italy - Women

SA 6021
This new optical frame for women is a contemporary take on the classic cat-eye shape, striking the perfect balance between the XE 4066 polymer front’s softly rounded profiles and the flat metal temples’ rigorous design.
The model’s ultra-lightweight feel is highlighted by a fine interplay of transparent hues: purple, turquoise-ruthenium, grey-ruthenium and brown-gold.

SA 6022
Lightweight and easy-to-wear: these women’s squared steel glasses offer superior wearability and utmost comfort, thanks to their flat, ultra-slim profiles and temples.
This model comes in classic matte nuances of purple, grey, and brown, as well as in a total black gloss version.

Seventh Street
Safilo’s Seventh Street line dedicated to kids is all about colours and trendy details, for a unique eyewear collection that is full of character.
The temples’ metal core is clearly visible through the transparent temples, highlighted by eye-catching colour contrasts between the front and the temple tips.

S 238
A perfect mix of clean, simple lines, lively colours and lightweight materials: these rectangular-shaped acetate glasses are the ideal choice for young trendsetters. The new model comes in classic tones of black and blue, as well as in fresh combinations of grey-lime and Havana-hazelnut.

S 240
With its strong, forthright personality, this rectangular-shaped acetate optical frame is perfect for girls.
Bright hues and unusual combos – orange-green, grey-pink, Havana-black and total black – add a lively note.

Safilo celebrates its 80-year history by launching a special capsule collection created in collaboration with Marc Newson, which will be unveiled in April 2014 during the 53rd edition of the Salone del Mobile in Milan.

Founded in 1934, Safilo, the leading brand in the eyewear market and pride of the Safilo Group, pays tribute to this significant anniversary through the synergy with one of the most versatile and influential designers in the world, creating a line that perfectly combines tradition and innovation, know-how and design – the values that identify this brand.

Among the principal features that unite Safilo and Marc Newson in the project’s core vision, are the primary use of state-of-the-art components, the concepts of transparency and transformation, and specifically, the reinterpretation of the past in a contemporary way through the balance between the distinctive approach of this guest-designer and the highest standard of made in Italy manufacturing guaranteed by Safilo.

In particular, the new capsule collection stems from revisiting a historical model personally chosen by Newson and resulting in 5 different variations, through 5 specific materials and technologies, based on the original shape from the Safilo’s archive. The assortment will consist of 5 optical frames and 2 sunglasses.

Respecting a precise chronological order that retraces the most important milestones and achievements of the brand’s 80 years of history, each of these 5 new models is characterized by unique features and avant-garde technologies that connote the qualities of the brand. They include: the use of ultra-lightweight Optyl (a trademark registered by Safilo) - whether used individually or combined with the new revolutionary Elasta 80 hinge; the application of the reinterpretation of the historical UFO collection (a frame formed by an ultra-thin steel wire); the use of aluminum and, lastly, steel integrated with the new hinge.

The fluid and essential silhouettes, pervaded by an almost organic feel, are further enhanced by sophisticated and luminous hues such as metallic shades in light and dark tones, royal blue and orange - the color that symbolizes the stylistic code of Marc Newson.

Safilo celebrates 80 years of genuine passion for trendsetting eyewear. We want to share our unique story of cutting-edge Italian heritage, savoir faire, quality and innovation through an exclusive partnership with Marc Newson.  Marc is one of the most eclectic and gifted creative minds of his generation. He has blended the richness of the past with the present and the future, through an exquisite capsule collection expressing an inspiring story of trust, excellence and timeless design,” said Luisa Delgado, CEO of Safilo Group.

For a designer, collaborating with such an iconic brand as Safilo, with its strong DNA and history of excellence presents an extraordinary opportunity to explore new stylistic directions, combining the heritage of the brand with a fresh and innovative perspective. I enjoy teaming up with this large professional company that is properly industrialized and disciplined in the process of bringing the product to market, as well as a true expert in craftsmanship. At the end of the day they want the product out there as swiftly as I do,” added Marc Newson.

The capsule collection, Safilo by Marc Newson, will be officially presented during the Salone del Mobile, inside the Triennale di Milano, a prime destination within the city which further underlines the strong relationship that exists between Safilo and the universe of contemporary design.

Available on the market from mid of April 2014, the collection will be distributed worldwide through an exclusive network that, in addition to multi-brand concept stores and high-end international retailers, like Colette in Paris, Corso Como 10 in Milan, Dover Street Market in London and Mr. Porter, includes a selection of the best-in-class specialized opticians.

Founded in 1934, the Safilo brand name represents an historic milestone for the Group on an international level. It combines expertise and know-how and values its tradition of technological innovation in the creation of eyeglass frames for men, women and children, where quality, functionality and comfort go hand in hand with good design.

Through this special project, which highlights the importance that the Safilo Group puts on this brand – a synonym of excellence all over the world, Safilo is offering the general public its new image. This image is aimed at a more contemporary and stronger look, without forgetting or losing those values that have made the Safilo name famous over the years: quality, comfort, reliability, durability and technological innovation.

The Safilo collections use technology to its maximum: the best example is the latest revolutionary lens-mounting system “Avantek” - invented by the American company of the same name - which eliminates the need to drill holes in the lens and therefore any possible distortion of the image: a new design concept for rimless frames.

Lightweight, hypoallergenic eyewear with original colour effects and exceptional qualities? If it is also extremely fashionable, it becomes absolutely irresistible!
All this is possible thanks to Optyl, a trademark which identifies a plastic used exclusively by Safilo for some of its most unique models.

Optyl is a revolutionary innovation for people who want to wear eyewear with extraordinary characteristics: it is no coincidence that some of the most prestigious brands that Safilo produces include models in their collections which use the particular material identified by this trademark.

The product of a special combination of substances, it is a thermosetting plastic material which is extremely lightweight and comfortable because it adapts to the wearer\'s face. A durable material, it is also hypoallergenic since it contains no plasticisers. Furthermore, it is treated with a special surface coating which protects it from corrosion caused by sweat and cosmetics.
All these exceptional characteristics are encapsulated in a frame which can also pride itself on outstanding colour and three-dimensional effects.

Optyl is a trademark registered by Safilo.

The bottle preserves the result of an experiment which aptly demonstrates one of the special properties of this material: its memory effect. In fact the bottle and frame front have been heated to a temperature of 140°C; when the front frame reaches this temperature it is deformed, but once inserted in the bottle, it cools and reverts back to its original shape.
